Just one of the reasons I love Chicago...

...is the Green Mill. Some friends and I went there last Saturday to hear Marco Polo (who I could not find a website for, unfortunately). They're a great band, very upbeat. The Green Mill is one of those places, where, despite loud music and loud conversation, you can feel completely calm and relaxed. It has comfy booths and dim lighting and it's like you're right there in the Jazz Age. (They also let you bring in take-out, which is awesome.) It's sort of casual and sophisticated at the same time. Chicago is such a great music town, and the Green Mill is one of the best places to go for really good jazz. (They also have poetry slams!) I can't wait to go back. If you're from out of town, definitely make a point of going. This is real, authentic, Chicago. : )
