Impossible
I recently finished another Young Adult book, Impossible by Nancy Werlin. I thought this book was very creative and drew from an older piece of literature that teens might not be familiar with. The book's events are based on a Scottish ballad from the 1600s entitled "The Elfin Knight", which served as inspiration for a variety of other versions, including "Scarborough Fair", as recorded by Simon and Garfunkel. What I thought was most successful in this book was the combination of real life and fantasy, which is difficult to do well. It's a pretty quick read, too, and is a very interesting tale. It's a unique story, and I feel that in the realm of paranormal and supernatural novels (especially teen novels), it can be hard to set yourself apart. This one does.
