New Orleans Lit

Once in a while I stumble upon a book that isn't exactly considered "great literature", but is well-written and an entertaining story all the same. Poppy Z. Brite's Liquor is one such novel. Set in the New Orleans restaurant scene, it follows two young cooks trying to start up their own restaurant, one where every dish is infused with some type of liquor. Being a huge fan of New Orleans (well...everything except for the heat!), I picked it up from the library on a whim and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's witty and real and a very entertaining look into the restaurant industry. Brite has several books on the same characters, but my library didn't have the second one (but they did have the third...) so I shall have to find it elsewhere. It was a good, quick read, and worth checking out.
