Finished a book! (reading, not writing, haha)

I finished reading "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls today. And it was, in my opinion, a truly amazing memoir. Her voice and attention to detail suck the reader into her life and create such vivid mental images. What a great story-teller. Just the first little section of the book is enough to completely grab the reader's attention (as the beginnings of books are obviously meant to do), so that the rest of the story just screams to be read. Her story also really made me think; about my own life and where I want it to go, if I have the ability and determination to make it go where I want...as well as about life in general, but specifically my own reactions to adversity, whether slight or severe. I found myself thinking that I have at times complained too much about something mundane and insignificant (and I'm sure most of us have done so), and the more salient my personal examples became, the more ridiculous they became. Sometimes I have no business complaining...there is always going to be someone somewhere who is worse off than me. And I know that's been said before. But I wanted to say it anyway. So, to reiterate, "The Glass Castle" is a fantastic memoir, extremely well-written and thought-provoking. Two of the most important aspects of good writing, I think.

Haven't decided what I'll be reading next. I have two National Geographics that I have yet to read, but I think I'll pick up some more fiction to go along with them.

Hmm...what else...hung out with Kristen today, which was fun. Ice cream at Tate's and then a drink and some spinach-artichoke dip at Palmers (goes great with ice cream, doesn't it? haha) and talked a lot. We hadn't hung out in a long time, so it was good to catch up.

Anyway. I think that's all I have to say for now. Buonanotte a tutti.
