Today I took part in one of my bad habits, that being spending money I didn't need to. :-P David and I were at Borders so I picked up some new stuff, which I will discuss in this post. Dave has also given me some new cds recently, which I regret to say I haven't listened to yet...sorry!! I did really like the Emiliana Torrini, but I do have to listen to it again and focus on the story within the album.
So anyway. One of my new music purchases is the complete sonatas and partitas for violin by Bach. I figure since I've been trying to play some of them recently, I should know what they're supposed to sound like. hehe
#2: Symphony No. 3 by Henryk Gorecki, aka the "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs". This piece is amazing. It is so beautiful. It's only three movements, all of which are slow and sad, but absolutely gorgeous. Kind of reminds me of Philip Glass' music to "The Hours", which is gorgeous as well.
#3: "The Book of Secrets", by Loreena McKennitt. Kind of Celtic-ish, with elements of Eastern music too. (I wish I could sound more educated and give a better description, but alas, this is the best I can do for now, after having listened to it only once.) The song I'm stuck on, and also currently listening to is "The Mummers' Dance". So gorgeous!! I love the melody. Love it love it love it. She has a beautiful voice and the instrumentation is awesome. (I know this isn't the most eloquent description, but I'm really excited about all this new music and when I'm excited, I'm not very eloquent. :-P)
So. The new music of my life. hehe All of it very pretty.
Now, to bed. Fire game tomorrow!! :-D
