the yellow chariot of fury and the interpretation of drinks

I have seriously been neglecting my blog. :-( Oh well, I have returned.

Been listening to the latest cds from Train and Keane. Both have proven to be quite awesome. :-D Finished reading "Straight Talking" by Jane Green, which was just a fun read. About halfway through "The Alchemist's Daughter" by Katharine McMahon, which I am liking very much. I also rented "A Very Long Engagement" the other night and really liked it. It's from the same director as "Amelie", so I did see similarities in how the two movies were made. I really like the style. And it was a very cool story, plus it's French. Yay foreign films!!

Recent happenings in my life:

Cafe Salsa with Kristen was fun, filled with animated, interesting discussion, as usual.

Spent a day wandering downtown with David, and acquired a new pair of sandals and the Keane cd, and had lunch. That night was a concert of Brazilian and Malinese music at Millenium Park with Dave, which was very very cool. People were dancing all over the lawn. We ended up leaving before it ended to try and find some food, but most places were closed by then so we found ourselves at Potbelly's. Also walked past the ABC studio during the news.

Last Friday was a movie night with Annie. First was Corner Bakery and Kilwin's, and then we watched "Pride and Prejudice". I loved it. A re-reading of the book is definitely in order. I've only read it once, back when I was about thirteen, and regret to say that I was not very mature when it came to literature at that point, and didn't fully appreciate the book. So I have to find my copy of it.

Sunday I went to the Npaerville Ribfest with my brother. Had some good food, and saw Better than ezra and Sister Hazel. Whoo!! Both bands did awesome, and I could hardly talk afterwards because I was singing along to most of teh songs. hehe Funny instances from the day: we parked in the wrong lot, resulting in a shuttle bus ride to a completely different festival. Oops. We weren't that far off though...hehehe. The pop machine ripped me off by giving me a Diet Coke when I hit the button for a black cherry vanilla Coke. I hate diet pop. Ugh. The shuttle ride back to the correct parking lot, however, was quite amusing. They let a lot of peole stand up on the bus, and this guy who was standing by my seat was yelling things out the windows to the people on the street, like "Look at all those people walking back to their cars! What fools! We're on a yellow chariot of fury!" and, upon passing another shuttle from the festival, "They have hardly any people standing in their bus! We have many people standing in joy and merriment!" My brother and I were laughing so hard. Completely ridiculous. :-P

Monday...lunch at Palmers with Annie, Miriam and David. Tons and tons of fun. Randomness and reminiscing soon ensued. Before recounting stories from high school and college as well, we discovered that my red cream soda and David's Green River were, wow, Christmas colors, Miriam's water was the sources of life, and, for lack of anything more creative, Annie's Diet Coke was the dark drink of death. lol We are so weird. That night I met Dave downtown for a concert by the Grant Park Orchestra, followed by the fireworks. The concert was pretty good...they did play some awesome things, such as the Shaker Melody from Copland's "Appalachian Spring", the Largo movement from Dvorak's 9th, and the Overture to "Candide", ending with Tchaikovsky's 1812, my favorite piece of all time, though I do have a special soft spot for my particular recording, and Dave will attest to that. ;-) The fireworks after the concert were amazing. I've only seen fireworks shows in the suburbs, and these undoubtably topped them. Pushed our way thorugh the crowds and just wandered for a while because I knew trying to get on the train right after would be insane. We got smoothies from Jamba Juice, and I need to find one closer to my house because it was SO GOOD. lol

Yesterday was very fun as well. Dave came to LaGrange for the day. Not much was open due to the holdiay, so we ended up at Corner Bakery for lunch, and then Kilwin's for some very yummy ice cream. We had some time to kill before the World Cup game, so I showed him my high school and where I work. (Not the most exciting way to kill time, but I was at a loss for things to do.) Came back here, watched the game, and then got some pizza from Lucca's for dinner. I was surprised that it was open, because I think seriously every other restaurant in town was closed. But I like Lucca's. hehe Ended the day with a trip to Caribou. Much fun was had. :-)

Today was boring. I went to work. That's pretty much it. :-P
