That would be Annie's new nickname for me. And I suppose it's true, at least some of the time. :-P
Second week of classes went well. Went on a little tour in my Chicago class yesterday instead of having lecture, so it was fun to just walk around. Had orchestra on Wednesday (I will only be able to make it to Wednesday's rehearsals, and not even for the whole time at that, but at least I get to go) and we read through the first movement of Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony. Hmm. We're not a very big orchestra. About the size of my high school orchestra. We're also currently missing bassoons, and are short on cellos, violas, and other instruments as well. Kind of a bumpy first rehearsal, but I'm hoping we can all pull it together for our first concert, which, if I heard my conductor correctly, is October 3rd. We're also playing a piece by Mozart, but she didn't have the string parts ready yet, so I don't know which piece it is. Not sure if there will be anything else. At any rate, I'm just glad I have an ensemble to play in. Next semester I shall be leaving my schedule free enough so that I can make it to all the rehearsals. (Novel idea, I know.)
My educational psychology professor is awesome. She's from Nigeria, absolutely hilarious, and knows her stuff. I'm looking forward to the rest of that class.
Have recently purchased the soundtrack to "Memoirs of a Geisha", which is so gorgeous. John Williams has done it again. lol And, having Itzhak Perlman and Yo-yo Ma as the soloists doesn't hurt either. I also pre-ordered Joshua Bell's new cd, "Voice of the Violin", which is also quite awesome. Che bellissimo. My favorite piece on this cd is Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise". It's so pretty, and it's cool to hear the melody on the violin instead of a soprano. (Which, of course, is beautiful as well.) Yay for new music!
Still reading "The Queen's Fool", though I am now almost done, thanks to my commute everyday. Plenty of reading time on the train. :-P I've also been reading a collection of poems by Emily Dickinson. I really like some of her stuff. The words may be simple, but still create imagery and make you think. I wish I could write good poetry. I sometimes refer to myself as a failed poet. I think I've produced like two poems that I've actually liked somewhat, (well, maybe a few), but I still question their quality. At least I have more faith in my fiction.
Last night Annie and I watched HBO's "Elizabeth I", which was very intersting, albiet a tad hard to follow at times. It really gets into the details of her life later in her reign, and I feel like I need a refresher course to get more out of it. The music and costumes were also very well done. The one glitch, however, is that the DVD was only Part One. Part Two exists, but we're not sure if it's just not on DVD yet, or if it has even been broadcast on HBO yet. And part one kinda leaves you hanging, so we really wanted to see part two...but...yeah. Boo to that.
Anyways. Tonight is dinner and a movie with my mom. :-) Gonna do some homework first.
Ciao ciao.
