I see I haven't yet discussed my last concert. It was one of the most enjoyable that I've played, and some of the best music. It went really well. What I find interesting about performing is that I (and, I suspect, a lot of other people as well), focus so much on what I have to do that I don't always get a good idea of everything else. I did get to hear a few clips later on, and the audience responded well. :-) This one took a lot of concentration, but it was fun.
Next concert is Saturday. Most of our pieces are by Leroy Anderson and Johann Strauss. The program isn't my favorite, but I think our audience will like it and the pieces are lighthearted, so it'll be a lot less stressful than June's concert. I think it will go well.
On the other hand, I can't help being excited already for our August concert. One of our pieces will be Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture", which is one of my favorite pieces.
There are only two weeks of summer school left. It seems to have gone a lot faster this year--I wonder if that's because I knew what to expect this time around, unlike last year, where I was going in for the first time. It's been going well, so I'm sure the last two weeks will continue that trend.
I won't be back in my classes until the fall, but my new area of study has already prompted me to read extra stuff about it outside of class...I am currently reading "Libraries in the Ancient World" by Lionel Casson. So far it's covered the libraries of Alexandria, Greece, and Rome, and is proving to be quite interesting. I would love to see some of the ruins, though there aren't that many left. I will write more about it once I finish.
I have finished "Vivaldi: Voice of the Baroque" by H.C. Robbins Landon...but I shall discuss that on my other blog: http://thebaroquecorner.blogspot.com
Feel free to check it out...
