Jane Eyre
Last night I finished watching Jane Eyre, from Masterpiece Theater and the BBC. I really like 19th-century British literature, though I have yet to read this book. I have a copy, but, as is the case with many of my books, they end up sitting for a while before I get to them, partly because I just accumulate so many that I think I'll never be able to read them all. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie, so I am more eager to read the book. I couldn't help but compare it to the Jane Austen stories I know, and while there is a happy ending, in general Jane Eyre is a lot darker than Austen's stories. There seemed to be a lot more strife involved in this one, and felt sort of moody, even. A lot of the scenes were dark visually, and a lot of the music had troubled tones as well. I tend to like that style, so I especially enjoyed those pieces of the movie. I'll have to push the book to the top of my list.
