More gorgeous music

Last Sunday, my orchestra had the pleasure of performing Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, now one of my favorite pieces of all time. Based on The Arabian Nights, it's an orchestral suite in four movements, all of which are extremely beautiful. The clip in this video is my favorite part of the piece--the end of the first movement into the second. It's one of my favorite melodies, and is featured first on the bassoon, then the oboe, and then the strings. Each version has its own mood and feel, but all are just so pretty. I loved performing it, and hope to do so again. In the meantime, listening will have to do. Enjoy the Moscow Symphony conducted by Arthur Arnold, with Elena Semenova on the violin. Beautiful.
