Saturday night a friend and I went to see the CSO perform, and had awesome seats in the Terrace section, behind the orchestra. (I love sitting back there...except when there's a soloist because you can't really see them play.) The program was charming and delightful. They played Haydn's Overture to L'isola disabitata and his Cello Concerto in C Major, performed by Pavel Gomziakov, Faure's Suite from Masques et bergamasques, and Mozart's ever-popular Symphony No. 40 in G Minor. The overture was short and sweet, the concerto impressive (Gomziakov plays beautifully), the suite very pretty, and the Mozart 40 is just beautiful and emotional. Hearing the CSO play is one of my absolute favorite things to do. I wish I could go more often. Hopefully I can make it to at least one concert during their Beethoven Festival in June.
As a bonus, here's a short clip of the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Trevor Pinnock (who also conducted Saturday's concert), performing the most recognized part of the Mozart 40, the 1st movement:
