An insightful memoir
Last week I finished reading Born on a Blue Day by Daniel Tammet. This book is an extraordinary memoir, telling the story of Tammet's life with Asperger's Syndrome, Savant Syndrome, and synesthesia. I've taken plenty of psychology classes in college and grad school, but no class really gives you a look into a person's mind like a memoir does. Tammet's book really helped me to better understand what it's like to have Asperger's; I've worked with several students who have it, but even then, it's difficult for someone without it to really understand it. Tammet also writes beautifully, with such poignant and elegant details. It's very personable, really, as if you're speaking with him rather than reading something he's written. It's very well done, and very insightful and emotional. I loved it.
