Go Gaiman

Yesterday I finished reading Neil Gaiman's American Gods and I must say, I am very impressed. I wasn't sure what to expect of his work for adults, as the only other books I've read of his have been for children (Coraline and The Graveyard Book). I enjoyed both of those, which is why I sought out his adult work once I learned that he actually wrote for adults. American Gods takes an interesting look at legends and what happens to them when they are brought over to America. He mixes fantasy with reality in a way that I think many writers can only hope to be able to do, making it almost entirely believable, even though the reader knows that the events of the story are completely impossible. Most interesting, I thought, was that only non-Christian gods and stories are used in the story. There is so much room for intense and intelligent discussion here; this was one of the most thought-provoking books I've ever read.
