The Hunger Games

Finally, finally, I got around to reading Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games. I'm pretty sure all of my students have read it, and after starting to help out with our Battle of the Books program, I decided to try and read as many of the books on the list as I can, and The Hunger Games was on it. If you know the basic premise, it sounds like it could be just awful to even think about, but Collins has created this very unique world and I was completely sucked in. As soon as I get throught a sufficient number of "Battle" books, I will definitely read the other two in her trilogy (my list of YA and YS books to read has been steadily increasing, as I guess it should seeing as I aim to be a YS or YA librarian...). This book will make you think, make you laugh, make you cry. As usual, when I read a great book, I find myself wanting to drop everything and work on my own pieces, which have been lying stagnant and dormant for some time, thanks to grad school. As soon as I'm done, though, watch out. : )
