I recently finished reading another Malcolm Gladwell book, Blink. This one discusses the power of first impressions and gut-instincts, and how both can sometimes be trusted more than decisions made after doing some thinking. (Obviously, some things require more thinking, but it all depends on the situation.) It's those times where we feel strongly about something right away without knowing how or why. There are occaisions when this lack of deep thought doesn't work (and he gives some very unfortunate examples of this), but there are many instances where your very first impression of something really does mean a great deal and can indeed be trusted. There is one more book of his that I have to read. I'm glad I got into his work because not only do I find it fascinating, but it's been filling a little void where psychological and sociological reading used to be when I was in college. He's got a great writing style too--very conversational, which works very well with the types of books he writes.
