meet me at the Bean

Well. Today was quite a satisfying day.

Got my workout done early. Yay!

Worked for a few hours. Boring, but it's a job.

Took a late afternoon train downtown to hang out with David and Aaron. Called Dave on the way and made plans for when he gets to the Chi-town area in a few days! Yay again!! :-D

Met David and Aaron at Union Station and went over to Un Bon Pain for some food. I had a yummy Cesear salad. Then walked over to Millenium Park for a performance by the Grant Park Orchestra, with one piece featuring the Joffrey Ballet. (Go Aaron!) The program consisted of Shostakovich's "Festive Overture", the Ball Scene and the Balcony Scene from Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. Whoa. What I'm wondering now is how I managed to live here my entire life without ever having been to a performance by the Grant Park Orchestra. It was, simply put, amazing. I had never heard the "Festive Overture" before, and really liked it. The two scenes from the ballet were just gorgeous. The dancing was beautiful and graceful, and the costumes were so pretty. And you have to love the Tchaik 5. The performance was ridiculously good. And we managed to get actual seats, so we didn't end up on the lawn, which was just as packed as the main section. It was my first concert at the Pritzker Pavilion and one could have some doubts as to the quality of the acoustics, seeing as it's an outdoor auditorium. BUT. Contrary to this theory, it sounded wonderful. And you can't even hear all the general city sounds around the park. Definitely attending more Millenium Park concerts this summer. Hell frickin' yeah.

Met Aaron at the Bean after the show, and then got some dessert at Moonstruck. (like I didn't go there enough at U of I haha) As usual, I had my favorite, the peanut butter shake. I think next time I should step out of my box and try the Mango Tango Shake or maybe the chocolate-strawberry shake. Mmmmmmm.

So yes. Quite a good day. :-)
