Mozart is wonderous...
Part two of Saturday night included the Lyric Opera's performance of The Marriage of Figaro, which was, simply put, fabulous. I've seen several Lyric performances, and each time I'm more and more impressed. I consider myself lucky to have access to such a great opera company. This opera was light-hearted, funny, and absolutely beautiful. Mozart had the ability to make a 3+ hour opera seem like it takes place in an hour and a half. And sitting all the way back in the upper balcony isn't really that bad, either. The view is great (though you can't see facial expressions), and the sound is best up there. The Lyric's singers are amazing; I could never get tired of listening to them. The emotion and power they can project through their voices is what makes their performances so enthralling. (And, of course, the orchestra kicks ass too!) What a great way to end the season!
