The Pianist

I had a copy of The Pianist from Netflix sitting on my desk since about April 1, and finally had a chance to watch it a couple nights ago. Few movies, I think, can invoke as strong an emotional reaction as this one. There are obviously many movies about World War Two out there, but the musical nature of The Pianist sets it apart. The music used in the film adds to the intensity of not only this particular story, but of what was happening during the war as well. This film captures the ugly reality of how Jewish people were treated, and several scenes were pretty hard to watch. It was harsh and real, and I think it's important to understand just how harsh this time actually was. As a whole, the film was well made and I thought that Adrien Brody was outstanding.

One of the pieces used often in the film is Chopin's Nocturne No. 20. It's beautiful. Take a listen.
