Gypsy jazz

Last night I once again found myself at the Salt Creek Wine Bar in Brookfield to check out a Gypsy jazz band called Chicago Hot Club Jazz. Awesome. They were reminiscent of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, so I had to unearth my Hot Club of France CD when I got home. Gypsy jazz is really cool and I wish I had the talent to play stuff like that. The violinist of the group also played Monti's Czardas and now I shall have to get my hands on the sheet music and learn it. I do have an awesome Nigel Kennedy recording of it, and will post a video clip here, as well as some Reinhardt and Grappelli. This stuff rocks. : )

You really do have to hear (and see) Nigel Kennedy play "Czardas" live to get the full impact of his performance. He frequently plays it as an encore, so just turn up at one of his orchestral concerts to catch it.
